Who We Are

CLIO was founded in December 1996, and has since established a strong reputation for hosting high-profile speaker events involving some of the leading historians from across the world. The society also organises a huge range of social events: the themed feast, instituted in 1999, is perhaps the best known. There are around 300 members currently in Cambridge, mostly but not all history undergraduates.

What we do

  • Regular speaker events during term-time.
  • Seminars led by Faculty members; see the Seminars page for further details.
  • Social events, including pub meetups, formal halls, and a garden party.
  • Informal history discussion groups on certain themes.
